Sensory Integration Training - Agility Hurdles

Hurdles are a physical activity that not only develops children's coordination and flexibility, but also cultivates their courage and perseverance.

Besides the standard horizontal hurdle jump, there are many other ways to use hurdles, allowing for greater flexibility and focus, which can help children become more focused and attentive during class.

1. Horizontal Crawling

Place the hurdles horizontally at a certain distance from each other. Have the child crawl forward between them using their hands and feet.

2. Horizontal Crawling

Place the hurdles horizontally at a certain distance from each other. Have the child crawl horizontally between them using their hands and feet.

3. Vertical Crawling

Place the hurdles vertically in two parallel rows. Have the child crawl vertically using their hands and feet, with their left hand and foot on the left rail and their right hand and foot on the right rail.

4. Vertical Swinging and Horizontal Crawl (Crab Crawl)

Arrange the hurdles vertically in two parallel rows. Have the child crawl horizontally with their hands and feet, with their left hand and right hand on one rail and their left foot on the other rail.

Balance Training

1. Fixed-Point Balance and Stability Training

Have the child stand still on the hurdles. The width of the hurdles can be adjusted based on the child's balance ability.

2. Horizontal Swinging Balance Beam Walking

Arrange the hurdles horizontally at a certain distance. Have the child walk horizontally between the beams. The distance between the hurdles can be adjusted based on the child's balance ability.

3. Balance Beam Walking

Arrange the hurdles vertically to form a balance beam. Have the child walk vertically between the beams with their feet. The width of the hurdles can be adjusted based on the child's balance ability.

Notes

1. Hurdles come in two types: injection molded and rotational molded. The reference image shows a rotational molded type. Use wide, sturdy hurdles for the above exercises.

2. During the exercises, a parent or teacher should be present to prevent children from falling and getting injured.
