Oiling Your Glove: Why, When, and How to Apply Oil

Why Apply Oil?

Break-in the leather: New gloves are often stiff and rigid. Applying oil softens the leather, making it more comfortable and flexible, thus helping it form a good pocket for ball control.

Leather preservation: Leather can dry out over time, leading to cracking and eventual breakage. Oiling your glove helps to preserve the leather, maintaining its pliability and preventing premature damage.

When to Oil Your Glove:

New gloves: Apply oil to a new glove before its first use to help with the break-in process.

Regular maintenance: Periodically oil your glove to keep it conditioned. You don't need to oil it after every use, but once every few weeks or monthly (depending on frequency of use) should suffice.

When the leather looks dry: If the glove starts to appear dry or stiff, it's a sign that it's time to oil it.
