Originally invented by George Hancock and Lewis Rober, baseball was initially played indoors, leading to modifications to the field, equipment, and rules. It gradually moved outdoors.
The name "softball" was officially used in 1926, and in 1933, the United States Amateur Softball Association was established, standardizing the rules and officially naming the sport softball.
Softball is a fun and beneficial sport that's easy to learn and has a relatively low entry barrier.
You don't need expensive equipment; just a ball and a bat are all you need to start enjoying the sport.
It not only promotes teamwork and communication but is also an effective way to make new friends and strengthen team spirit. In terms of fitness, softball provides a comprehensive workout, improving strength, speed, agility, and endurance.
Especially when hitting and running the bases, it significantly strengthens core muscles, leg and arm muscles, while also improving reaction time and hand-eye coordination.
Whether for health, socializing, or recreation, softball is an ideal choice, allowing you to enjoy the sport while experiencing the joy of teamwork.
Baseball Bats
Batters are the core equipment in softball and can be made of metal, bamboo, plastic, carbon fiber, magnesium, fiberglass, ceramic, or other synthetic materials. Bats used in international competitions must be approved by the International Softball Federation (IISF).
Currently, metal bats are commonly used in international competitions, with a length not exceeding 86.4 cm (34 inches), a weight not exceeding 1077 grams (38 ounces), and a diameter at the thickest point not exceeding 5.7 cm (2.25 inches).
When choosing a bat, consider the material, grip, weight, size, and shape. Wooden bats are suitable for power players, metal bats are flexible and durable, while carbon fiber bats are lightweight and offer excellent performance.
Softball
The game ball must meet the standards set by the International Softball Federation (ISF) Rules Committee and bear the ISF logo.
Junior game balls have a circumference of 27.9 cm (11 inches) and weigh between 166.5 and 173.6 grams (5.875 to 6.125 ounces); adult game balls have a circumference of 30.5 cm (12 inches) and weigh between 178 and 198.4 grams (6.25 to 7 ounces).
