Punching Bag Stand

A sandbag is one of the training tools used in combat sports, primarily for striking strength training.

A sandbag is not literally a bag filled with sand; if it were filled with sand, it would be too hard to strike effectively. Sandbags are typically made from materials such as synthetic leather, PU leather, canvas, or Oxford fabric for the outer layer. Between the outer layer and the filling material, there is usually a cushioning layer made from EVA or plastic foam. Pre-filled sandbags are typically filled with shredded fabric. If filling them yourself, it is recommended to use shredded leather or fabric. Some people prefer to fill them with sawdust or grains, but this makes them too hard and is generally not recommended.

Sandbags come in various shapes and sizes depending on the training focus, combat category, and style.

The most common traditional sandbags are cylindrical. Other shapes include banana-shaped (a relatively slender cylinder), spherical, teardrop-shaped, pear-shaped, large-headed, bowling ball-shaped, and so on.

Sandbag training is the most interesting part of boxing training, where you can truly imagine your opponent and take all necessary countermeasures. When conducting this training, there are many important things to note. For beginners, considering all factors at once can be a significant challenge. It is recommended to focus on one aspect at a time and master it before moving on.

1: When punching, the muscles should be relaxed and have some elasticity. Do not tense the muscles too much, as this can lead to fatigue and a loss of speed;

2: Apply force to the tip of the fist. This means that when the fist makes contact with the bag, the arm should be fully extended to maximise the force;

3: When punching, the palm of the fist should strike the bag, not the knuckles. This ensures a solid punch without causing injury. Many boxers make the mistake of striking the bag with their knuckles, which not only reduces the force of the punch but also causes the fingers to act as a cushion.
