Bulk Golf Balls

Modern baseball, though rooted in early English bat-and-ball games, truly evolved and flourished in the United States. In 1845, American Alexander Joy Cartwright standardized the rules of the game, laying the foundation for modern baseball. He established the diamond-shaped field layout, defined base distances, and formalized gameplay regulations - many of which are still in use today. He also popularized the term "Baseball," solidifying the sport's identity.

The first organized baseball game took place in 1839 in Cooperstown, New York, a town now celebrated as the birthplace of modern baseball. By 1860, professional players began to emerge, and in 1871, the "National Association of Professional Base Ball Players" was formed. It was renamed the "National League" in 1876. Another league, the "American Association," later evolved into what is now Major League Baseball's American League.

The first World Series, a championship between the two major leagues, was held in 1884. Baseball's popularity surged, and in 1910, President William Howard Taft officially recognized baseball as the national sport of the United States.

Internationally, baseball spread rapidly. It was introduced to Japan in 1873, where it quickly became a national pastime, with the first professional team forming in 1934. After World War II, the sport expanded across Europe, and today it is played in over 100 countries worldwide.

In 1938, the first Amateur World Series was held in London. The International Baseball Federation (originally founded in the U.S. in 1937) became the sport's global governing body. In 1978, it was officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and its headquarters moved to Lausanne, Switzerland, in 1994.

Baseball debuted as an official Olympic sport in 1992 but was later removed. However, it returned for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and on October 16, 2023, the IOC approved baseball/softball as part of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games lineup.
