The structure of a gymnastics springboard

Generally consists of four main components: the surface layer, the spring system, the support frame, and the non-slip base.

 

1.Surface Board

This is the top layer of the springboard, the part directly stepped on by athletes.

The interior is typically made of high-strength wood, multi-layer composite boards, or fiberglass-reinforced boards.

The exterior is covered with a high-friction, non-slip mat (usually synthetic rubber or a carpet-like material) to prevent slipping.

2.Spring Mechanism

Several coiled steel springs or high-elasticity polymer springs are installed at the base of the springboard.

The number and stiffness of the springs affect the springback and rebound force of the springboard.

Some adjustable models can adjust the number of springs to accommodate different weights and training needs.

3.Support Frame

This is typically made of metal alloy or sturdy wood for structural support.

The frame securely connects the springs to the springboard surface, ensuring uniform force distribution.

4.Non-slip Base

This is made of rubber or a high-friction composite material to keep the springboard firmly fixed to the ground. Shock-absorbing padding is sometimes added to further reduce impact on joints.

Wood/Composite Boards: Commonly used for the top, they offer both rigidity and a certain degree of elasticity.

 

Synthetic Fibers (such as fiberglass): Increase strength and durability while reducing weight.

 

Steel: Used in the springs and parts of the frame, providing strong rebound.

 

Rubber/Polyurethane: Used in the anti-slip layer and shock-absorbing pads for increased safety and stability.

 

Carpet/Anti-Slip Mats: Provide foot stability and prevent slips during running starts.
