Medicare Kinesiology Tape

Ignoring contraindications: The tape should not be used on damaged skin, infections, dermatitis, open wounds, deep vein thrombosis, severe renal insufficiency, active cancer, or in individuals allergic to adhesive tape.

Proper use of kinesiology tape

Professional assessment first: For first-time use or in cases of specific injuries or pain, consult a physical therapist, sports rehabilitation specialist, or team physician. They can accurately assess the issue and develop a taping plan.

Master the correct application technique: Learn the anatomical location of the target muscles, the shape of the tape (e.g., Type 1, Y-shape, claw-shape), the direction of the base and tail, and the required tension (typically 0%-75% tension). Watch reliable professional instructional videos or attend training sessions.

Prepare the skin: Clean, dry, and remove excess hair (to prevent poor adhesion or pain upon removal), and avoid applying moisturizing products. Choose high-quality products: Select brands that are breathable, hypoallergenic, have long-lasting adhesion, and excellent elasticity. Low-quality tape is prone to causing allergies and falling off. Pay attention to your body's reactions: If you experience skin itching, stinging, numbness, coldness, or color changes (paling or turning purple) after application, it may indicate an allergic reaction or excessive tightness. Remove immediately.

Post-exercise care: During showering, soak in warm water before slowly removing. Use a specialized adhesive remover to clean residual adhesive residue.

Kinesiology tape, like an athlete's "invisible armor," has great potential in supporting joints, relieving pain, enhancing performance, and accelerating recovery. However, it is ultimately an auxiliary tool, not a magical adhesive tape. By scientifically understanding its principles and limitations and using it correctly under professional guidance, you can truly harness its "adhesive" protective power, helping you walk steadier, farther, and more fearlessly on your athletic journey!
