1. Prolonged immersion of hair in chlorinated pool water can easily damage the delicate scalp. Dyed hair is prone to fading, while naturally black hair may develop a yellowish tint, and abnormal hair loss can sometimes occur.
2. Therefore, a silicone swimming cap that isolates the scalp from pool water is essential. Ordinary spandex caps offer relatively poor protection for the scalp.
3. Applying conditioner or hair oil after washing creates a protective barrier between hair and pool water. Wearing a silicone cap provides dual protection.
4. Wet hair before donning the cap. Damp hair gathers more easily beneath the cap, increasing friction and preventing slippage.
5. High-quality silicone swim caps offer superior waterproofing and a snugger fit; inferior caps tend to be loose and prone to leaks. If hair is merely dampened by shower water, it won't damage the scalp, so there's no need for concern. Moreover, clean water can dilute chemicals in the pool water, so it's advisable to wet your hair before entering the pool and then put on the cap.
6. For swimmers using lockers, rinse the cap with warm water after each swim and shake off excess moisture before storing to prevent mould.
7. If lockers are unavailable, rinse the cap after returning home and air-dry it in a shaded area (avoiding direct sunlight). Never expose it to sharp objects or squeeze it forcefully. Allow it to dry naturally while stretched out.
8. When swimming, dampen your hair before putting on the cap to prevent slipping and facilitate fitting. Women should avoid wearing hair clips beneath the cap.
9. Over time, dirt may accumulate on the cap's surface. Gently wipe it with a soft cloth dampened with a mild detergent (such as shower gel or shampoo). For stubborn stains, wipe patiently for a longer period.
