Training Approach for Adolescent Athletes Using Weighted Clothing Before using weighted clothing for training, a gradual progression principle should be adopted: start with lower-difficulty movements and progress to higher-difficulty movements. Before performing challenging training, ensure that students can stabilize their bodies using core strength and control their bodies to prevent noticeable swaying before beginning training.

Speed is a core ability in many sports, such as ice hockey, tennis, soccer, and basketball, which all require exceptional speed as a foundation.

 

In a 2022 study, researchers investigated sprint training with weighted vests among adolescent athletes and found that training with weighted vests was more effective in improving speed during the initial acceleration phase. The initial acceleration phase covers a distance of approximately 10–20 meters, and the 20-meter sprint is a commonly used training method for tennis and ice hockey athletes. Compared to traditional 100-meter or 50-meter sprints, ice hockey and tennis athletes are better suited to the 20-meter sprint as a primary exercise, as this distance aligns more closely with tactical scenarios on the field.

 

Another literature review targeting Asian youth athletes aged 9-15 found that participants underwent a 6-week training program with 3-4 sessions per week. Monitoring revealed that weighted clothing aids in speed improvement, suggesting its inclusion in actual training.
