Common Agility Hurdles Drills

 

Square Hurdles Drill

 

Key Points: Arrange the four hurdles in a square shape.

Perform squat jumps, forward and backward, left and right, and single-leg squat jumps around this shape, focusing on maintaining your center of gravity.

 

S-Shaped Hurdles Drill

 

Key Points: Arrange the hurdles in various shapes and perform small steps.

Focus on controlling your center of gravity and the power of your forward, backward, and left and right push-offs.

Avoid contact with the hurdles.

You can also extend this exercise to include S-shaped squat jumps, single-leg hops, and other variations.

 

Sprint Horizontal Small Step Drill

 

Key Points: Accelerate forward, then brake, then quickly move sideways.

Return to the starting position, then sprint to the right.

Focus on maintaining rhythm and keeping your center of gravity low when braking.

 

Guidelines:

 

1. Before beginning training, be sure to warm up your entire body.

2. Training is generally most effective when performed at full speed, meaning you should maintain a consistent speed. Training too slowly is meaningless.

3. Maintain enthusiasm for training. If you lack enthusiasm and become bored, you won't see results.

4. Maintain a moderate volume, not excessive. Make sure to rest for a day between training sessions to allow your body to recover.

 

At the same time, don't overlook a crucial area for improvement: strength.

 

All the agility training you see won't support the energy generated by explosive power without a strong foundation.

In other words, without muscle mass, there's no way to achieve good explosive power.

Furthermore, if the joints, ligaments, and muscles aren't strong enough, they won't be able to handle the directional changes and acceleration demands of agility.

Therefore, comprehensive strength training is fundamental.
