How to kick a Taekwondo foot target?

There are three types of kicking techniques for Taekwondo foot targets. The fixed-target method requires determining the position of the foot target to practice the accuracy of strikes. The moving-target method does not fix the position of the foot target, training both kicking techniques and footwork simultaneously. The conditional-target method complements the first two methods by incorporating practical techniques from real combat situations.

The first type is the fixed-target kicking method, where one practitioner holds the target in a fixed position and guides another practitioner through the kicking process. The first practitioner may also adjust the target's direction to encourage the second practitioner to use different techniques.

The second is the mobile target, which also requires two practitioners to cooperate. One practitioner can change the position of the target while holding it, and the other practitioner must adjust accordingly and follow the first practitioner's movements. This method not only trains the practitioner's striking techniques but also their footwork.

The third type is conditional target kicking, where one practitioner holds the target while imposing certain restrictions on the kicking method, and the other practitioner must respond accordingly to the restrictions. This method is essentially another form of training for real combat situations.

How big are Taekwondo foot targets typically?

Taekwondo foot targets are divided into two types: large and small. Large foot targets are slightly larger, typically rectangular in shape measuring 40 cm by 55 cm, and are designed to quickly improve a practitioner's striking skills; Small targets are slightly smaller in size, irregular in shape, resembling a chicken leg, with a handle at the bottom connected to the center of the target, making them suitable for beginners.

Large targets are larger in size and come in various styles, but most are rectangular, typically measuring 40 centimeters in length and 55 centimeters in width. The back of the large target has an elastic band for the person holding the target to grip. When using the large foot target, both arms should hold the target to keep it stationary, which helps train the practitioner's leg speed and kicking power, thereby quickly improving their striking skills.

The small foot target resembles a chicken leg in shape, with a handle connected to the center of the target at the bottom. The bottom of the handle has an elastic band, and the target holder typically inserts their palm into the elastic band, wraps it around the wrist once, and then grips the handle tightly. The small foot target is suitable for beginners in Taekwondo, helping to enhance interest in learning the sport while also training the practitioner's agility and reaction speed.
