Grip Techniques

1. Holding the Staff: Hold the staff with the right hand, using the thumb and index finger to grip the staff body, with the remaining three fingers naturally curved, the palm facing the staff tip, keeping the staff body tightly against the right side of the body, with the handle touching the ground.

2. Lifting the Staff:

① Single-hand grip: Hold the staff with the right hand at the 1/3 point from the handle end;

② Parallel grip: Hold the staff with both hands, palms facing forward;

③ Opposite grip: Hold the staff with both hands, palms facing each other.

Staff Techniques

1. Pulling the Staff: Swing the staff tip diagonally forward and upward to the left or right. When pulling the staff, use light, swift, and steady force, and do not swing too widely.

2. Sweeping the Staff: Swing the staff tip horizontally below the waist; or swing the staff with the tip touching the ground and the staff body tilted. Sweeping the staff requires swift and powerful force, with the force reaching the staff tip.

3. Swing the staff: Swing the staff tip to the left or right with one or both hands. The swing should not exceed one full rotation, and when combined with a turn, it should not exceed two full rotations. The swing should be swift and powerful, with force transmitted to the staff tip.

4. Stabbing the staff: The tip or handle of the staff is thrust forward, sideways, or backward in a straight line. Stabbing the staff requires a short, sudden burst of force, with power reaching the tip or handle.

5. Splitting the staff: The staff is swung downward from above to split. Splitting the staff requires swift and powerful movements, with force reaching the tip of the staff.

6. Standing circle dance: Hold the middle of the staff with both hands and rotate it in a standing circle on both sides of the body from top to front and bottom. It should be continuous and fast, and the standing circle should be close to the body.

7. Lifting and sweeping dance: Hold the staff one-third of the way from the handle with both hands and sweep it forward in a standing circle along both sides of the body from bottom to front and top. The movement should be quick and continuous, with the stick rotating close to the body but not touching it.
