Plus, it delivers noticeable results-if you use it correctly, it'll give your abs a serious workout and make your core as solid as a rock.
Most people perform ab wheel exercises in a kneeling position because the standing variation is incredibly difficult. Some who try to "show off" by doing it standing up often end up like this... So, our goal isn't to "show off"-we must follow the principle of gradual progression. Throughout the process, ensure proper form and effectiveness. Remember: if you don't push yourself too hard, you won't get hurt.
So here's the question:
How should you perform the ab wheel exercise correctly?
The key lies in your pelvis! Both anterior and posterior pelvic tilts alter your spinal curvature. Slightly tilting your pelvis backward before pushing the ab wheel forward will better engage your abs and keep them contracted.
So, as you prepare to roll the wheel out, keep your pelvis in a slightly posterior-tilted position while squeezing your abs. Try to maintain this posture throughout the movement; your lower back should remain flat as you roll the ab wheel out.
Your abs should remain engaged at this point to maintain your pelvic position. As the ab wheel moves away from your body, focus on using your abs to stabilize your body. If your core strength is insufficient and you roll the ab wheel too far away from your body, your pelvis will tilt forward significantly, causing your lower back to arch. Your strength will then shift to your arms-in other words, the force supporting your body will transfer to your arms rather than your core (abdominal muscles).
So if you feel your lower back is arching excessively or you don't feel your abdominal muscles being "worked" at all, you need to correct your form or avoid rolling the ab wheel too far away from your body-to the point where your abdominal tension is on the verge of relaxing.
