Cleverly Using Gymnastics Mats to Teach Hurdles

1. Assisted Practice of the Take-Off and Swing-Off Legs While Walking. When practicing the Take-Off Leg while walking, place an inverted "V"-shaped gymnastics mat parallel to the "swing leg" hurdle.

During the exercise, have the student cross the mat with the "swing leg" and perform a folding and lifting motion with the "take-off leg" over the hurdle.

This exercise not only cultivates the take-off leg technique, but also restricts the "swing leg" to landing directly in front of the hurdle, thereby reducing difficulty, improving practice quality, and overcoming student fear.

When practicing the "swing leg" while walking, place an inverted "V"-shaped gymnastics mat parallel to the hurdle. This allows students to practice the "swing leg" while simultaneously reviewing the "take-off leg" technique, preventing the "take-off leg" from landing sideways, and ensuring that the "take-off leg" is lifted directly in front of the swing leg's landing point.

2. To address students' fear of the "hurdle step" technique, using two gymnastics mats to form a hurdle frame can reduce their fear during practice and help them perform the technique better.

3. To address issues such as a close take-off point, hurdle jumping, and insufficient back push of the take-off leg during practice, placing two gymnastics mats to form an extended hurdle frame can increase the distance between the take-off point, thereby avoiding issues such as insufficient back push of the take-off leg and hurdle jumping.

4. Using two gymnastics mats to form an "L"-shaped hurdle frame can limit students' take-off leg technique during the hurdle crossing. This focuses on addressing issues such as insufficient folding and abduction of the thigh and calf, insufficient ankle flexion, toe drooping, and insufficient lift of the take-off leg during the take-off leg.

This pattern can also be used to practice the swing leg followed by the take-off leg while moving. This can address the timing of the swing leg and the take-off leg interlocking, allowing students to practice pressing down with the swing leg while simultaneously lifting and interlocking the take-off leg, thereby achieving a quick hurdle crossing.

5.Practice hurdle running using gymnastics mats. Place three gymnastics mats horizontally on the track, spaced 7 to 9 meters apart. Students will quickly run forward after striding over them. This graphic exercise will help students develop a three-step rhythmic technique for hurdle running.
