Medical treatments such as drug therapy or surgery all involve external factors altering the body's internal causes of disease, representing passive treatments for patients.
In contrast, approaches like psychological counseling, dietary therapy, and exercise rehabilitation serve as active complementary therapies that assist the body in self-repair and regulation.
These often yield favorable outcomes in disease recovery.
However, in the context of exercise rehabilitation, cancer patients differ from the general population.
They are typically more physically vulnerable, with lower disease resistance than healthy individuals.
Some patients may even be unable to move independently.
Therefore, exercises should be simple, comfortable, and highly targeted.
Cancer Patients: A High-Risk Group for Thrombosis
Many may not realize that most cancer patients are in a hypercoagulable state.
Tumor cells can activate the coagulation system, leading to thrombin formation, indirectly stimulating monocyte synthesis, and activating various procoagulant substances.
This activation of the coagulation system places them at high risk for thrombosis.
Reports indicate that the incidence of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in cancer patients with hypercoagulability reaches as high as 20%.
Previously, the academic journal Famous Doctors published a study where researchers had patients use squeeze balls post-surgery to observe their clinical efficacy in preventing PICC-associated thrombophlebitis in cancer patients.
The study enrolled 250 participants (144 men, 106 women) with an average age of 66.4 years.
Participants performed grip ball exercises four times daily, completing 50 repetitions each session.
The standard required squeezing and releasing the ball at 30 squeezes per minute, compressing it by more than half its original volume.
The study concluded that blood flow velocity increased most significantly at 30 squeezes per minute.
The muscle contractions generated during ball squeezing accelerate upper limb venous return, playing a crucial role in preventing thrombophlebitis.
