Teams may also signal to the referee their intention to attempt a penalty goal kick, which must be taken as a set kick or drop kick. During the kick, all players of the kicking team must remain behind the ball, while opposing players must retreat at least 10 metres or to their own goal line nearest the ball, maintaining a position parallel to the goal line.
Throwing-in (Throwing into Play)
When the ball crosses the touchline out of play, the opposing team is awarded a throw-in at the point where the ball crossed the touchline. Both teams form a single file line perpendicular to the touchline, positioned 5 to 15 metres from the touchline, with approximately 0.61 metres between players.
The throwing team must throw the ball straight along the channel between the two lines of players. Players may jump to catch the ball or tap it to a teammate; typically, two teammates will lift the ball from below to contest aerial possession.
Rugby League Scoring Methods
Several scoring methods exist in Rugby League:
Try (5 points): An attacking player successfully grounds the ball in the opposition's in-goal area (try zone).
Conversion Kick (2 points): Following a try, the attacking side may opt for an uncontested kick at goal from any point on a straight line perpendicular to the try line. A successful conversion awards 2 points.
Drop goal (3 points): During play, a player may drop the ball and kick it immediately after it touches the ground. If the ball passes between the goalposts and above the crossbar, 3 points are awarded.
Penalty kick (3 points): Following a penalty decision, the attacking side may opt for a penalty kick. A successful penalty kick awards 3 points.
