Ankle sprains are a common problem for athletes and those with joint instability. Self-adhesive bandages have garnered significant attention as an effective, proactive protective measure.
1. Individuals with recurrent ankle sprains (ankle instability).
2. Individuals who require protection before engaging in sports such as basketball and football.
3. Individuals recovering from a mild sprain who still need to engage in activity.
4. Individuals who tire easily from prolonged walking or standing.
Core Steps: Figure-of-Eight Heel Locking Technique
1) Anchor Point
Place the starting end of the bandage at the mid-lower part of the calf, approximately a palm's width above the ankle joint. Wrap it horizontally and evenly three times to form the base of the bandage.
Wrap the bandage diagonally downward across the dorsum of the foot to the sole of the opposite foot, then back around the starting heel. Wrap it diagonally upward across the dorsum of the foot, repeating the "figure-of-eight" pattern three times to stabilize the ankle.
1. Medial Ankle Lock: Place the bandage against the lower edge of the medial malleolus and wrap it upward, backward, and downward in small circles to lock it.
2. Lateral Ankle Lock: Next, place the bandage against the lower edge of the lateral malleolus and wrap it upward, backward, and downward in small circles to lock it. This step effectively limits ankle inversion and rotation.
