Standing up and taking off

Standing steady in fast currents is a difficult part for beginners. Only through practice can muscles develop a memory effect and become conditioned reflexes.

Key points for standing up and taking off:

1. Maintain your center of gravity while holding the board, with your hands parallel to your chest and your feet together.

 

2. Use your arms to push yourself up, keeping your head up and your eyes looking straight ahead.

 

3. As the board pushes forward and speed increases, begin to stand up and jump onto the board, keeping your feet shoulder-width apart and your spine straight.

 

4. Bend your knees slightly, relax your arms, lower your center of gravity, find your balance, and look in the direction you're going.

Safely landing in the water

After a wave ends, try to half-kneel on the board and slowly disembark.

 

If you need to jump off the board, try to land to the side or behind the board, lying flat to avoid injury in shallow water or on rocks. Protect your head with your hands when landing to avoid being hit by the board.

 

1 Before entering the water, tie the foot straps to your feet and the foot strap hooks.

 

2 Lie flat on the board, centering your weight.

 

3 Keep your head up, chest high, and upper body supported by your abdomen. Look straight ahead, and with your fingers together, stroke rhythmically, one left and one right, from top to bottom, along the sides of the board.

 

4 When paddling, keep the nose of the board slightly above the water. If the nose of the board digs into the water, it will be difficult to move forward. If it falls back, the nose will tilt too far, making it difficult to maintain balance and easily being carried away by the waves.
