Beach Tennis

Although beach tennis is primarily played on the beach, it can also be played in any season and on any surface, such as sand, grass, hardwood, and even snow.

Compared to tennis, it is very easy to learn; beginners can engage in long, continuous rallies within minutes of stepping onto the court or even on their first try.

Anyone with experience playing table tennis or badminton will find beach tennis easy to pick up.

Beach tennis combines competitiveness and recreation, and because it is simple to learn, athletes and non-athletes of all ages can participate.

Game Rules

It's similar to tennis, except for the requirement to play on a beach tennis court. Each team of 2-4 players must block the ball back and forth to prevent it from bouncing, as bouncing on the sand is difficult.

Each team is allowed one hit. A point is scored when the ball reaches the outside line or touches the ground. Beach tennis uses specially designed rackets and low-pressure balls, making it easy to increase the number of rallies.

Using these special rackets eliminates discomfort, especially forearm and wrist pain, while the sandy surface provides cushioning for joints, especially the knees and ankles, which can be a problem with regular tennis.

Beach volleyball is widely popular, with teams typically consisting of 2-on-2 players (advanced players), 3-on-3 players (suitable for intermediate players and casual play), and 4-on-4 players (suitable for beginners, friends, and family gatherings).

Development History

Beach tennis originated in 2000, a new sport combining tennis and beach volleyball. The first international beach tennis tournament was held in Aruba, Netherlands, in 2002, with participants mostly being tourists from around the world. In 2005, the United States Tennis Association began its own national tour.

Today, beach tennis is a very popular sport in countries and regions with well-developed tennis, with more and more young people flocking to the beach to enjoy the sport under the sun.

In 2008, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) officially launched the "ITF Beach Tennis Tour." Participating players are certified by the ITF and enter the ITF Beach Tennis Ranking through a points system, with the rankings published regularly. Since 2008, major cities around the world have competed to host the beach tennis tour.
