Basketball Sizes: What Fits Your Child?

Choosing the right ball size depends primarily on age, hand size, and training level. Here's a breakdown:

Mini Basketball (Size 3)

Circumference: 56–57 cm

Weight: 300–340 g
Ideal for very young children or those just starting out. Size 3 basketballs promote proper hand-eye coordination and body mechanics.

Children's Basketball (Size 5)

Circumference: 69–71 cm

Weight: 470–500 g
Designed for children under 10 years old. The ball is small and light enough for young hands to control comfortably. If your child has larger hands for their age, you might consider upgrading to the next size.

Intermediate/Transition Basketball (Size 6)

Circumference: 70–71 cm

Weight: 510–550 g
Best suited for kids aged 11 to 15. Size 6 is also used in women's professional, high school, and college basketball. It provides a great transition for preteens moving toward adult-level play.

Official Size Basketball (Size 7)
