Have you ever had this experience:

 

You clearly caught the disc, but were called for "traveling"?

 

The opponent's shot clock was about to hit 10, so you hurriedly threw the disc only to be called for "time out"?

 

You didn't think you committed a foul, but the opponent called "Foul," and then the two of you just stared at each other?

 

The appeal of Ultimate Frisbee goes far beyond just running, jumping, and taking photos. Its most unique essence lies in "no physical contact" and "self-refereeing." Without understanding the rules, you might remain a "clueless newbie" on the field; but once you know the rules, you'll discover that Ultimate is a psychological game that combines the strategies of track and field, basketball, and soccer.

 

I. Game Basics

1. How do you win?

Catch the disc securely in the opponent's end zone → Score 1 point. The team that reaches the target score first or leads at the end of regulation time wins.

 

2. How do you attack?

You can pass the disc in any direction.

After catching the disc, you cannot run; you can only pivot on one foot in place.

Defenders may legally count down around you: they count from 1 to 10. You must release the disc within 10 seconds; otherwise, possession changes.

 

3. How to Defend?

You may only block paths, intercept, or knock the disc out of the air; physical contact is strictly prohibited.

You may not pull, bump, hold, or block running paths (off-ball screening has separate rules; see below).

 

4. When does possession change (Turn)?

The offense immediately becomes the defense if any of the following occurs:

The disc hits the ground (for any reason, including a dropped catch)

The disc is directly "intercepted" by the defense

The disc goes out of bounds

The player holding the disc fails to pass within 10 seconds

The disc is legally knocked out of the air by the defense and no one catches it before it hits the ground
