🔍 Clarification 4: Does touching the disc with your hand count as a "drop"?
Once you touch the disc and it subsequently hits the ground (regardless of whether you attempted to control it), it counts as a failed catch, resulting in an immediate change of possession. Therefore, when the opposing team has the throw-in, do not attempt to catch a disc that is about to hit the ground-unless you are 100% certain you can catch it, otherwise you will end up giving the disc to the opponent.
🔍 Clarification 5: How is going out of bounds determined?
Out-of-bounds is determined by the disc, not the player. If the disc touches the ground, an object, or a player outside the field while in flight, it is out of bounds. However, if you are standing outside the field and jump to catch a disc flying over the field, as long as your first point of contact (usually your feet) lands inside the field, the catch is valid. Similarly, if an offensive player's foot crosses the boundary line while catching the disc-even if the disc is in the air over the field-the catch is ruled out of bounds (because a part of the catcher's body is out of bounds).
🔍 Clarification 6: Can you "clap to intimidate" while defending?
No. Ultimate Frisbee rules explicitly prohibit unnecessary noise (such as screaming or clapping) intended to interfere with the opponent's catch. This constitutes a "violation," even if there is no physical contact. More seriously, if a defender intentionally shouts loudly just as an attacker is about to catch the disc and causes the opponent to drop it, the referee (or self-referee) will typically rule that the attacking team regains possession.
