7. Balls that Help or Hinder Play
If your ball could help another player, you may pick it up. If it is another player's ball, you may ask them (or someone else) to pick it up. If any ball interferes with your play, you may ask for it to be lifted. You cannot agree to leave a ball in place to assist another player. When lifting a ball that could help or hinder play, you may not clean it unless it is on the putting green.
8. Loose Impediments
You may remove a loose impediment (i.e., natural objects such as rocks, scattered leaves, or branches) if it is not in the same hazard as your ball. If removing it causes your ball to move, you incur a one-stroke penalty and must replace the ball.
9. Movable Obstructions
A movable obstruction may be removed anywhere on the course without penalty. If your ball moves as a result, it must be replaced without penalty. If the ball is in or on a movable obstruction, you may lift the ball, remove the obstruction, and then drop the ball directly below its original position in the obstruction, without penalty. The exception is if the ball is on the putting green, in which case it must be placed at that spot.
10. Immovable Obstructions and Abnormal Course Conditions
If your ball is not in a water hazard, you may take relief from immovable obstructions and abnormal course conditions without penalty if they physically interfere with your lie, stance, or swing. Lift the ball and drop it within one club-length of the nearest point of relief, no closer to the hole. If the ball is on the putting green, place it at the nearest point of relief. If the ball is in a bunker, you may take relief behind the bunker by incurring a one-stroke penalty.
