Mini Hockey Ball

Field hockey is a fast-paced, competitive team sport played on a rectangular grass or artificial turf field. Players use a curved stick, known as a hockey stick, to maneuver a hard ball with the aim of scoring goals by striking it into the opposing team's net. Because it is traditionally played on grass, the sport is also referred to as "grass hockey" in some regions.

Hockey Balls

Goal Structure

Goals are 3.66 meters wide and 2.14 meters high. Constructed from white-painted rectangular posts and crossbars, each goal is backed by netting that prevents the ball from exiting once scored. The goal's depth must be at least 0.91 meters at the crossbar level and 1.22 meters at the base.

Corner Flags

Each corner of the field includes a flagpole, measuring between 1.20 and 1.50 meters in height. Flags should not exceed 300 mm in width or height and must be designed to ensure player safety.

The Ball

The ball is a hard, seamless or dimpled plastic sphere, typically white but allowed in other agreed-upon colors. It weighs between 156 and 163 grams and measures 22.4 to 23.5 cm in circumference. The modern ball design was developed in the late 1960s to suit synthetic turf surfaces.

Sticks

Sticks are made from engineered plastic or wood. They feature one flat side (the only legal side for striking the ball) and one rounded side. A stick must weigh no more than 737 grams and must pass through a 5.10 cm diameter ring. The typical length does not exceed one meter.

Player Gear

Players wear rubber-soled shoes (no metal spikes) and must use shin guards. Goalkeepers are required to wear a full set of protective gear including a helmet, chest protector, leg guards, kickers, padded gloves, and additional padding for thighs, arms, and elbows. All protective gear must be designed to avoid sharp edges or extensions.

Team Composition

A match is played between two teams, each with up to 11 players on the field, including a goalkeeper. Substitutions are unlimited and allowed at any time, except during the award of a penalty corner unless it involves an injured goalkeeper. Matches are divided into four 15-minute quarters, with short breaks between the 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th quarters, and a longer halftime interval.
