Surfing with an inflatable paddle board offers many advantages, including portability, ease of access to the wave zone, and exceptionally easy catching waves. The board is particularly adept at running straight and diagonally, allowing you to ride multiple waves straight to shore. Mistakes that land you or others are not dangerous.

Of course, inflatable paddle boards also have disadvantages. They are difficult to get started with, require a high level of balance, and are difficult to master.

The takeoff is crucial, especially when the wave height behind you is appropriate. The power you apply in the first few strokes and the center of gravity you adjust in the first few steps are crucial to successfully catching the wave and taking off.

Start from a kneeling position. Step forward to the handlebars, lower the nose of the board, and apply force to the paddle. When the nose of the board is about to enter the water, quickly step back, slightly lifting the nose and paddling close to the surface. The overall stance of the paddle board should still be slightly lowered, but not dipping.

The entire process involves numerous forward and backward footwork, which greatly tests basic balance and the ability to fine-tune your center of gravity.

If the nose of the board isn't properly controlled and plunges directly into the water, beginners will likely capsize. However, experienced riders can quickly adjust their center of gravity and lift the nose of the board out of the water. While they might miss a good wave, they won't fall into the water.

If the angle between the board and the wave is too shallow, it's easy to be pushed into the water. In this case, you need to control your center of gravity, hold the board steady, and use the paddle for support to maintain your position until the wave passes under the board. At this point, adjusting the board is pointless and may even lead to falling into the water. It's better to miss the wave and try again.

When an inflatable racing board is angled through the waves, steering by tilt is extremely difficult. The outward sweeping paddle shown in the video is largely ineffective. At this point, using the inward-scoring paddle to block the water can effectively correct course, but the force and balance must be appropriate to avoid falling into the water.
