Hawkeye Challenge

According to the rules, the basic number of challenges per team per round is two. If the first challenge is successful, there is one challenge opportunity left; but if the first challenge fails, the team will no longer have a challenge opportunity in this round. Each team must make a challenge by the captain of the field to the first referee.

Bad behavior

1. Team members who commit bad behavior against the referee, the opposing team, the same team members or the audience shall be penalized. According to the severity of the foul, it is divided into three categories:

(1) Rude behavior: Violation of sports ethics and civilized behavior, and insulting expressions.

(2) Offensive behavior: defamatory or insulting words or gestures.

(3) Offensive behavior: physical assault or attempted assault.

2. Refereeing methods for bad behavior. No penalty will be given for minor bad behavior, but a warning will be given by gesture or language. A yellow card will be shown for rude behavior, and the team will be penalized for a goal. A yellow card will be shown for offensive behavior, and the team will be disqualified for one game. A red or yellow card will be shown for offensive behavior, and the team will be disqualified for one game. All penalties are recorded on the score sheet.

Modification of the rules

On July 25, 2016, the FIVB suddenly announced a temporary modification of the current volleyball rules, canceling all technical timeouts in the 76 indoor volleyball matches held at the Rio Olympics.

The reason given by the FIVB is that in volleyball matches, in addition to the technical timeouts, the head coaches of both teams can also have two timeouts each. In addition to the time for the Hawkeye challenge, the entire game will inevitably become less coherent. The intensive schedule of the Rio Olympics indoor volleyball competition is also a challenge for the athletes' condition, so the decision to temporarily modify the rules and cancel the technical timeout was made.
