Volleyball Techniques Methods

 

Movement Techniques: Short-distance movements are the most frequently used in volleyball matches.

 

Common movement techniques include:

 

(1) Sliding Step:

 

When the ball is close to the body and has a high trajectory, the sliding step can be used.

The action involves stepping to the right with the right foot first, then quickly bringing the left foot alongside, landing to the left of the right foot.

Continuous side-stepping constitutes the sliding step.

When sliding forward, the front foot steps forward first, and the back foot quickly follows, landing behind the front foot, and so on.

The sliding step is mainly used for passing, digging, and blocking.

 

(2) Crossover Step:

 

When the ball is about 2 meters away from the body, the crossover step can be used.

The action involves turning the upper body slightly to the right when moving to the right, stepping forward with the left foot from in front of the right foot, then quickly stepping to the right with the right foot, landing to the right of the left foot, while simultaneously turning the body towards the direction of the incoming ball, preparing for the hitting posture.

The crossover step is mainly used for defense, first pass, and blocking.

 

(3) Striding Step:

 

When the ball is low and close to the body, the striding step can be used.

First, take a large step in the direction of movement, simultaneously bending the knees, leaning the upper body forward, and shifting the body's center of gravity to the striding leg.

The striding step can be forward, sideways, or diagonally forward.

 

(4) Running:

 

When using running for movement, the arms should swing in coordination, and the body should turn while running, according to the direction of the incoming ball.

 

(5) Combined Footwork:

 

This involves combining the above various footwork techniques.

For example, running followed by a sliding step, or a sliding step followed by a crossover step or a striding step, etc.
